“Um, Marcy. The game’s only just begun. Now’s not the time to celebrate, or it will bite you.” His voice comes out light, it comes out cheeky, and Marcy’s eyes roam to his face, a little wide, a little surprised. They hesitate, finally caught off guard. Then they laugh.
“I see how it is,” they say, shoving their hair back, a habit Andrias will get used to seeing with time. “Alright, so I guess it is a little different from chess.” Having finally conceded, they look up at him with glinting eyes. “Show me how it’s done, ‘Drias.”
So he complies. If there’s any two things Adrias excels at, it’s flipwart and doing as he’s told.

"An ice-cream van?" Marcy looked the innocuous vehicle up and down. The decals on it featured mascots that had stopped being relevant for a decade now. And the ice-cream menu was composed of things that aren't produced any more. Marcy would know, she had a killer sweet tooth.
He scoffed. "It's not just an ice-cream van, dearie. This is a high-tech government vehicle."
"Does it have any ice-cream inside?"
He let out a dry, unamused laugh. "No."
"Darn."
"The words of you and every other kid who tried knocking on that window."

Summary
Marcy could remember the exact moment. Even if it had been days. It was like everything faded away, a static that they felt ever since... Some event... Was now known to her. Amphibia, a world of fantasy to the Chief ranger, was now a never-ending nightmare since that moment. It was now obvious why the inhabitants of Amphibia were ignoring them. It was dreading to see tired, lifeless, exhausted eyes when they looked in the mirror now. Marcy even started realizing holes in her memory, especially during the day she and her friends were going to go back to Earth...
Even with holes in their memory, Marcy wanted to forget one moment, one that made her want to realize something sooner.
... The moment they saw their cold lifeless body used as a host for that- Thing. The moment Marcy realized she was dead, now a cold hollow ghost.
