Existence Between Planes

Summary:

Marcy could remember the exact moment. Even if it had been days. It was like everything faded away, a static that they felt ever since... Some event... Was now known to her. Amphibia, a world of fantasy to the Chief ranger, was now a never-ending nightmare since that moment. It was now obvious why the inhabitants of Amphibia were ignoring them. It was dreading to see tired, lifeless, exhausted eyes when they looked in the mirror now. Marcy even started realizing holes in her memory, especially during the day she and her friends were going to go back to Earth...

Even with holes in their memory, Marcy wanted to forget one moment, one that made her want to realize something sooner.

... The moment they saw their cold lifeless body used as a host for that- Thing. The moment Marcy realized she was dead, now a cold hollow ghost.

Marcy didn't survive Andrias stabbing them. Olivia and Yunan were too late to get to the rejuvenation tank.

Chapter Text

Marcy didn’t need to say this day was chaotic. If it was written in history books it could be mistaken as all the events in a singular year. She whistled out, a familiar bird soaring below and catching her as the wind beat against her as she fell. They didn’t mind that though, focused on the little pink frog from Frog Valley - And Anne's best friend. Joe Sparrow's wings flapped against the wind, but not fast enough as the pink frog named Sprig drew closer to the ground, “Faster Joe-! Come on!” They hissed, the bird becoming instantly faster, and Marcy adjusted her arms to be able to catch Sprig- almost about to hit the ground.

Sudden pressure was against their arm and Sprig was caught by them. They let out a sigh of relief, “Good job Joe, now we need to get back to the castle.” She said, then turning their attention to the shaken frog. He was definitely traumatized- And would have to push that down due to their current… Situation. But physically he was ok. But they were unsure what to expect in the castle. When Anne, her best friend, started to glow the ranger was too focused on needing to save Sprig instead of wondering about the mysterious blue hue that started to radiate off of her.

Joe Sparrow stopped at a window, Sprig jumping off and quickly muttering out a “Thank you” as he ran towards Anne. Marcy dismounted the large bird and saw that everyone was still distracted- And she had a perfect chance to get the Calamity Box. She inhaled sharply, whispering to the bird to keep alert and bolting towards the stand the sacred artifact was on. They grabbed the box as swiftly as they could, hearing the hum of the power the castle was getting from it immediately stop. They skidded to a stop, collapsing on their knees as the castle she once called home started to fall. But that didn’t phase her, she only had one chance to open the portal back to Earth.

She quickly thought of the research she had done on the box, fingers fumbling slightly as she clicked in a combination. A portal quickly sparked into existence, but Marcy still had to keep it stable- And get people in. Hell, they didn’t even know if this plan would work, “Please work, please work,” She quietly begged, realizing they had a short amount of time to pull this off. They turned back, seeing Sasha block the newt king, Andrias, from his path to steal back the box. They gritted their teeth, “Everyone into the portal, hurry-!” She called out.

Anne and the Plantars’ jumped into the portal rather quickly, already starting to head to the portal. The portal was filled up with the group already, she needed to make it larger, and quick. Their attention turned back to the box, Marcy trying to also tune out the clashing between Sasha and Andrias behind them. They started to try enlarging the portal with the box, and Sasha wasn’t even in the portal yet- “Marcy! Hurry!” Anne urged them,

“I just need to-” She was cut off by a sharp pain in her chest. The pain quickly spread to their other nerves. They sharply inhaled, slowly registering what had just happened as the taste of hot blood landed on their tongue. Marcy slowly looked down, terrified. A glowing sword is what they found. Hot as lava and burning. It definitely impaled them, Marcy probably was going to die too from this. Their grip on the box loosened, quickly feeling their energy and blood drain.
“Now, look at what you’ve made me do,” Andrias boomed. She had to do something- They couldn’t die like this. Surely not. Their mind raced, thinking of their friends- Their life. It was like time slowed down. Anne was safe- And the Plantars’. Thats all that mattered, Sasha could handle herself. She always found a way. Anne had the Plantars’. They surely could fight Andrias without them. But still- Marcy had to do something- But nothing came to mind but the events from today. She looked up, forcing the blood down their throat and forcing a smile.

“Anne, I-I’m sorry… For everything.” She choked out, suddenly losing all control and collapsing. They could hear the music box clattering as they fell. They tried breathing quickly, but with no result. The world slowly started fading into black.

The last thing they heard was Anne call out their name, heartbroken. Then just ringing. The next bits were blurry and vague. They could feel the cold stone walls on their skin. She could feel newt hands drag her. They could feel being propped up to be sitting. She opened her eyes and lifted her head, using the last of her energy, and saw a tube- Big enough to fit a person in it- With wires attached to it before everything faded away.

Marcy gasped, waking up in a cold sweat. They clutched their head, hyperventilating for a while before calming down. She looked around, relieved that she was just in her room in Newtopia. Their mind thought about their dream. It felt so… Real. She took in a deep breath, grounding herself in her reality. They got up and looked around, unsure of what to do.

She searched through her stuff, they usually had their plans in their journal. But it was nowhere, “Thats weird. I’m sure it was on my nightstand last night… But-! I’m sure it’ll turn up somewhere.” Marcy muttered to herself. They sighed, they might as well just go by the day normally. For Marcy, it was reading the books in the castle's library and writing. Of course, she would have to write on a scroll until her journal popped up. They grumbled, leaving their room as her memory of the vivid dream quickly faded away, like any other dream.
