The hold music begins before Jacobi can finish his sentence. He blinks at the far wall and then glances at a clock. He’ll give it thirty seconds before he hangs up.
Then the music stops jarringly mid-note and someone says, “Thank you so much for your patience. I understand that you’re seeking career opportunities with Goddard Futuristics.”
It’s a different voice, masculine but lilting, and it makes the middle of Jacobi’s back tingle.
Set immediately after “Things That Break Other Things.” Jacobi makes a phone call and takes a test.

The very first time Peter kissed Juno Steel was right here in this apartment, before Juno even knew his name. Juno had brought him back here, just like today; given him a drink, just like today. Nothing has really changed, despite everything they have been through together. If he kisses Juno now, if he allows himself to spend another night with Juno without resolving anything about the last time, then the risk is there that sooner or later they’ll just end up right back where they started.

After a second Jon steps in towards him, close enough that Martin flinches, but all Jon does is put two fingers under his chin with his free hand and raise it until Martin can’t duck away. Jon has never touched him so casually before – at least, not until today, and it raises a lot of thoughts and feelings that Martin is trying very hard not to process.
Much like a lot of other things that have happened, he thinks. Not that it’s horrible or terrifying or numbing like everything else has been: it’s just another thing on the list of things he doesn’t have the capacity to deal with.

AU where Jon and Georgie are still friends, Georgie likes finding dates for her friends, Martin doesn't work at the institute, and everyone is just a bit happier while canon spooky stuff goes on in the background.
