Summary
“Um…” Jacobi coughs. “I think you should come and take a look at this.”
No. Absolutely not. Kepler is not moving under any circumstances. His laptop stays right where it is until he gets his body back under control.
“What is it?” he manages, and by some miracle his voice holds.
Jacobi swivels the desk chair around to face him, and for a moment Kepler is distracted wondering whether to be disappointed or relieved that he eventually put on a pair of sweatpants. Looking a little flushed, he fidgets with a loose thread on the chair.
“I found the explanation for the condoms”, he says. Kepler grunts, nodding for him to go on. “They managed to synthesize an aphrodisiac, mostly by accident, I think. Sounds like they were a little taken aback by the effects, but they, uh, adapted pretty quick.”Kepler is exposed to a strange substance while in the field, but fortunately Jacobi is there to help him deal with the effects.

Pulled back into the only thing he's good at, for a company that has no business being trusted, by a man he has no business trusting, he's balancing the guilt he's trying to outrun with the infatuation he's trying to chase. One of these days, he'll deal with how easily he's accepted the wrong man's offer.

As the dust settles, there seems to be no other place Jacobi can imagine going, so he tags along with the Hephaestus survivors - and Kepler, alive but aimless, trails after Jacobi.
Kepler survives - yay! Now what is he supposed to do with a life he probably should not have and that has no use or purpose? Let's try and find out.

Summary
They both caught their breath in unison, staring at their hands as though they were alien appendages. The same tingling, pleasurable feeling coursed between them, and Kepler curled his fingers around Jacobi's, his heart racing at how good it felt. It was like a continuous, subtle charge straight to the aching core of his arousal, and he never wanted it to end.
Nothing he'd ever experienced was like this. He should be freaking out, but it felt so *right*.
“Sir...” Kepler looked up at Jacobi's awestruck voice. Their eyes met, and Kepler saw that his pupils were blown wide. “What is this?”

Kepler and Jacobi hunt the plant monster, but trigger its newly evolved defence mechanism: a cloud of pollen that allows it to escape. Unfortunately, the agents inhale a little too much of this pollen, and are helpless to resist its dizzying effects...
Set just before the plant monster's untimely demise in canon.

Summary
There is a small number of available courses of action to take when you find yourself locking eyes with a hooded viper. A normal person might, for example, stop dead in their tracks. If they're smart, they would back away slowly, keeping the necessary eye contact to ensure the snake stays put from where it's hissing at them from. Snakes can bite even with their heads chopped off, fully. Something about their muscle memory. Or the brain still running after its connection to the stem had been severed?
Jacobi isn't really a snake expert.
(In which Daniel Jacobi messes up on a whim, and is now paying for it with his sanity. Warren Kepler gives him a framework of discipline and regrets it. After all, when a snake bites you, you start getting nervous even around lizards.)
