He's not sleeping well and when he does, he dreams of a phantom lover that electrifies his senses in strange ways. Can Rude navigate these complicated feelings and also root out the bad guy?
The story is about Rude and Reno, but there will be some flings before we get there, so there is some F/M. and some sex scenes with Original Characters. There are some TW and general notes before most chapters.

Summary
So… it doesn’t seem like he wants to talk about it, but with Aki so upset, Shinjiro feels like he has to know.
“Aki,” Shinjiro probes, with just a touch more gentleness this time. “Seriously.”
“I just—” Aki breaks off, his brow furrowing. Shinjiro leans back, in part to give him his space, and also to roll up his pantleg and check to see what the damage is on his calf. There’s some mottled bruising, but Shinjiro doesn’t feel anything out of place when he pokes at the bone, and there’s even less to see on Aki’s other leg.
Shinjiro lets his hands drop. “You just…?”
“They were talking about you, okay?” Aki bursts out, and Shinjiro does blanch at that, his eyebrows shooting up on his face.
“...So?” Shinjiro eventually manages to ask.

Akihiko comes in with his usual standard of injuries, but for a slightly different reason.

“I didn’t do this,” Reno says.
“But you could have done it. You might have done it,” Tseng muses, “and you thought about it a few times.” Reno doesn’t speak. Tseng watches. “You thought about it plenty of times,” he corrects himself.
Reno closes his eyes.

He slams a fist against the glass as he barely makes it inside, blood smearing everywhere. He coughs again as he tries to fish a few coins out of his pocket. Once he finds two, just enough for one short call, he quickly jams them in the slot and dials the one number he knows by heart.
Rufus’, “Hello?” on the other line immediately pulls at Tseng’s heart strings. Part of him doesn’t want to do this call.
“Rufus,” Tseng says, his words stilted, pained. Rufus’ sharp inhale is audible through the phone line.
“Tseng?” Rufus asks. “Where are you?”
“Mission failed, sir,” Tseng says instead of an answer.
“What do you mean by failed?” Rufus demands.
Tseng coughs then, loud and wet. “You know what I mean.”

Summary
Elena looks at Aerith, unbothered by crawling around in the dirt, a smudge of it on her nose. Her hair is tied back in a braid, and baby hairs stick to her forehead with sweat.
“...They’re beautiful,” Elena says, looking away from Aerith and at the flowerbed instead.
“The flowers said that?” Aerith says. Elena hears the teasing in her voice.
“They’re pretty stuck-up flowers.”
Aerith laughs. Elena think that’s also a beautiful sound.

“You did send me that toy. It’s pretty close to the real thing.”
“Pretty close isn’t the real thing, though. So please know that if you ever feel the need... I won’t mind you enlisting the aid of a third party.”
Reeve.exe has stopped working.
And as his brain halts and catches fire at that, Tseng’s voice drops, low and dark and vaguely dangerous, and he adds:
“As long as I get to watch, of course.”
[in which Reeve has a Type, Tseng shares, and Vincent is fine with all of this.]

Summary
Sephiroth is looping, repeating the events of Final Fantasy VII over and over again. He has experienced not only the events of the original game and the remake, but many more cycles beyond, stretching into a multitude of similar and yet ever-so-slightly different worlds. Regardless of loss, death, or even victory, he has been unable to free himself from this time loop – or even uncover why he is looping at all.
Determining to find answers, he seeks out Aerith Gainsborough to see if he can convince her to interrogate the planet itself for information. However, it turns out Aerith is not completely ignorant of the cycle. Fed experiences by the planet of the events of the original Final Fantasy VII, she has good reason to distrust Sephiroth and his plans.
This story revolves around their interactions with each other and the resulting consequences that ripple through this particular cycle.

Summary
Edited in September 2024
"It was common knowledge by now that at birth, a mark would be placed upon the skin of every child that would dictate their partner in life.
It began in the late 1800s—or at least, that was when documents discussing it were first discovered—and it wasn't uncommon to find that a bond had been broken. For the most part, this was due to the untimely death of one half, often before they had even crossed paths; an outcome that seemed, in some inexplicable way, even more tragic than meeting and losing each other afterward.
But other times, a bond was broken because of the rejection of the other half. If this happened, it was said to be a pain that was unimaginable and many would prefer to have had their bond broken through death than through the emotional torture it brought."
