Losing someone she loved had never crossed her mind. She only knew love. She only knew companionship, joy, compassion and the sadness of longing. But nothing had prepared her to feel that. A mixture of hatred and agony. It felt like a complete paradox of what she had always felt. She didn't know how to act, think or speak. Her body was a cold, lifeless statue.
So this was what it was like to lose someone you love?
One-shot headcanon based on the nightmare Sarada had in Novel 4 of Boruto (which was adapted into the anime between episodes 27 and 32, but this dream was not adapted). In this one-shot, Sarada's dream is not a nightmare, but a reality.

Summary
Meeting Sasuke’s eyes once more, Sakura pursed her lips. Sasuke’s apartment was only a short distance from hers and, by proxy, only a short distance from the hospital. Looking down at her soaked sandals, she pondered. This only had to be as awkward as she made it.
Clearly, Sasuke didn’t mind Sakura staying with him or else he wouldn’t have offered. However, that didn’t make things much easier. Her feelings towards Sasuke were a jumbled mess that Sakura hadn’t had much time to untangle, but one thing was still certain: she still loved him. Despite everything, a part of her heart still couldn’t rid itself of the spot Sasuke had burrowed himself into. And yet, she wasn’t sure how he felt towards her. The last thing she wanted to do was scare him off, especially when they were in such a good place. For the first time in her life, Sakura could confidently say that she and Sasuke were friends, and she was terrified of potentially ruining that.
Or, five times Sasuke tries to let Sakura into his life, and the one time she finally understands.

“Help me understand,” Kara says. “Are you saying everyone falls in love with their best friend?”
“I’m saying that queer women have a special affinity for it,” Lena repeats, fishing the cherry out of the bottom of her drink. “The whole ‘falling for your straight best friend’ is basically a rite of passage.”
“Says who?”
“Everyone.” She puts the cherry in her mouth, bites it off the stem. “The L Word was like, built on the premise that a friend group of queer woman in LA dated each other in some sort of terrible repeating circle for, god, however many seasons that went on. And it’s been my experience that when two people are attracted to each other, and they’re close, feelings are likely to develop.”
“That’s just, I mean, come on.” Kara’s cheeks are a little pink. “A trope and a tv show? That’s your evidence?”
“So you’ve never been in love with your best friend?” Lena looks down at her empty glass.
“No!” Kara sounds affronted. “No, I have never been in love with my best friend.”

“Kara,” Winn says softly.
“Hm?”
“Lena’s last name is Luthor.”
Kara slows to a stop sign and feels the tension build in the truck as Winn anticipates a reaction.
She doesn’t give him one.
“So?” She looks ahead at the intersection. Focusing on pushing in the clutch and shifting through the gears when it’s her turn to go.
“I just… I wasn’t sure if you knew. And thought maybe it’d be something you’d noticeably react to -- once you found out. And, well, what if you found out from Lena and reacted in front of her? So I--”
“Why should I care if her last name is Luthor?” Kara cuts him off.
“Kara--”
“Lionel didn’t even get charged. The evidence was circumstantial at best,” Kara dismisses as she takes a corner just a tad too fast.
“Kara, her dad was the main suspect in your entire family’s murder.”
