Every crop failed to reach harvest within twenty miles of the weapon, drought followed it like a shadow, and there had been several cases of spontaneous madness in its vicinity, though it wasn’t yet clear whether they were linked or mere coincidence.
‘Zhanmadao…’ Feng Xin whispered aloud. He could picture the sabre so vividly in his mind despite not having seen it for over eight hundred years. He was certain it was the same weapon.
Mu Qing died 800 years ago. Now, his beloved Zhanmadao shows up again out of nowhere, causing death and destruction to all who dare to touch it.

Wrapping a supporting arm around his back, Feng Xin rubbed his shoulder soothingly and sighed. ‘I think someone’s still a bit drunk.’
‘Yeah. You.’
‘True. But you too.’
Mu Qing grunted, and even managed to make such a primal, guttural noise sound sarcastic.
‘I’m not the one leaning against the person I hate,’ Feng Xin pointed out.
‘You’re the one who married the person you hate.’
That startled a laugh out of him, his heart jumping and fluttering in his chest like an absolute fool at such an absurd notion. ‘Eh? What are you talking about? How drunk are you?’
Feng Xin and Mu Qing make the seven-hour flight to Las Vegas for Shi Qingxuan and He Xuan's (secret) wedding. Mu Qing copes with a severe, newly-discovered phobia of flying by drinking through it. Feng Xin is left to deal with the fallout.

Feng Xin felt Xie Lian move, a simple turn of his head to look at him. ‘Can I ask you a question, Feng Xin?’ he asked in a whisper, as though making too much noise would destroy this little sanctuary.
Bracing himself, he hummed an assent. Xie Lian would be gentle with his questions, but Feng Xin didn’t know how to be gentle with his answers.
‘Do you…think that alphas and omegas have to pair up?’
He turned to meet Xie Lian’s gaze with a questioning hum.
‘I just mean…do you think it’s possible for two omegas to pair up instead? If they like each other, I mean.’
Feng Xin and Mu Qing are both alphas. They have known this about each other since they were kids. But when their little pack of three suffers a sudden shift in dynamics, this pure and simple fact about each other starts to grow complicated.
