Summary
Three years after inexplicably escaping the digital circus, Christine (Pomni) struggles to feel alive again. After returning to urban exploring but finding no thrill in the activity, she finds another, more bold idea. Having long given up on finding her friends from the circus, she was absolutely floored to have found Felix (Jax) in the most unexpected of places. Christine constructs a plan to investigate what happened to them, desperate for closure, but the only person who might be able to help her is dead-set on denying their past.

Breakfast is weird the next morning. Jax is quieter than usual, the table falling into a soft lull of conversation, while he sat and poked at his pancakes. If you could even call them that.
Ragatha laughs next to him, but the sound is distant. He can feel the thoughts in his head weighing him down. This is so stupid.Pomni hasn’t bothered to show, not that he cares. He doesn’t. But his foot taps at the floor with unease, anxiousness spreading from his chest to the rest of his body. His chair scrapes the floor, the loud noise pausing the conversation as Jax leaves the table without a word.

He definitely liked what he saw—her short height, small figure and quick temper reminding him of someone he’d foolishly fallen in love with in what felt like forever ago. Not like she’d be proud if she saw him now, messing around with anyone who even resembled her by just a flimsy margin. He just had to admit it to himself as he hungrily ate her soft features with his eyes like he could ever be satisfied.
Afterall, they’d been free for a bit more than a year now. Every pretty feature of her jester face was fading from him, fast. Her soft, kind voice that always knew what to say was the first to depart, then the next thing he knew, he found himself forgetting how sweet her laughter was. And, at the very bitter end, the self-worth he had when she kissed him and chose him to make love to. The movie played before his eyes every day, every delicious rewind corrupting the cassette that was her memory in his mind. Sooner or later, he’d realised the world was too modern and too ever changing for the format to keep up with him. He was overwhelmed.

"You aren't very good at stealth." He groaned, yellow eyes still focused on the door as he dug a key with a lilypad emblem on the end out of his pocket. He looked and sounded dejected, his ears folding slightly forward and his back was slumping in on itself... It reminded Pomni of a kicked puppy.
“I— I was just….” She stepped into view, her gloved hands clasped together in front of her nervously. She met his eyes, expression dropping a bit as she noticed how far gone he seemed. "I was wondering where you were going."
Jax turned his head and stared back at her. He seemed to mentally note what she had said, but didn't make a snarky response.
