Let me make one thing clear, Simon died in the Blood Ocean.
The creature that takes his form and lives in a biome on Erid may have his memories and may occasionally look human; however the creature is very much not human in many ways.
Dr. Ryland Grace is very human and very curious. The opportunity to explore memories and experience events of both movies is a little too tempting to think of the possible consequences.Humanity is a repeating cycle of pride, fall, and regret, driven by the eternal delusion that 'this time is different.'
