Summary
The son of the man who lost the Eagle of the Ninth would never be allowed a first command of his very own fort, would he?
Marcus is posted not to Isca Dumnoniorum, but to a wretched and run-down garrison north of the Wall. There he finds that he is the new centurion of a group of scouts and spies, all of them British. V. good fic. Personally really enjoy drawn-out pining-and-misunderstandings trope, so unlike third-favorite clutch-sib, appreciated that author did not take much easier/faster route towards resolution of having Esca turn out to be velociraptor who ate all who side-eyed relationship with Marcus (and made clear to M. that submitting to velociraptor SO not unmanly but natural order of things). Also, adding velociraptor strength and cunning would have made action sequences and scouting adventures rather dull, remains fun to see fragile humans doing their best. Fourth-favorite clutch-sib hoping that Saturnalia coda will be surprise crossover with Magic Mike, however, cannot agree as will only lead to yet another round of "why is archive still unable to easily filter out crossovers?" wank.
