No one could say that Neil Josten needed therapy.
No matter what Andrew insisted, he was smart and independent enough to change his bad habits into something healthier. For instance, he knew he was a liar—a liar who lies, who likes to lie, and who finds it easy to do so.
For the last week, he’s been trying out a great way to change out of that habit, and by that, he means that because he didn’t need to keep lying to his friends for survival, he could redirect that practice to something less of a need and more of an entertainment thing.
It’s not his fault that when he directed his new, healthy routine to Kevin, it kind of backfired.
Did you hear?” he took another piece of strawberry in his hand and pretended to inspect it, feeling Kevin’s eyes on him. “Aaron died.”
“What?” Kevin’s face did a funny thing where his jaw went slack, his skin was becoming gray and his mouth was opening and closing.
“Yeah, he was hit by a car this morning, Andrew just got out of the hospital with the news.”
“What? No.” His body was shaking a lot.
