taywrites11There's an iphone leak during the Olympics and shane is outted via his messages and ilya is eventually implicated by them later. Realizing this ilya races to find a way to take a train out of russia. They eventually meet at shanes cottage after shane is benched from the canadian team for his potential ties to ilya. The suspense, how terrified shane is for ilya the entire time is so well conveyed.

“I’m sorry,” Shane whispers against Ilya’s hair. “I’m so, so sorry. I didn’t—”
Shane cuts himself off with a faint stutter in his breath that Ilya feels in his own chest.
“Please,” Ilya begs, but he isn’t sure what he is even asking for.
He wants Shane to leave. He wants Shane to stay. He wants Shane to hold him and never let go.
Ilya feels Shane’s fingers fist in his curls, holding tight as if Ilya could ever bring himself to pull away.
Shane doesn’t know that Ilya could never, that he cannot fathom turning his back to take even one step away from him.
All he can do is push Shane away, make him walk first, and pick up the pieces left behind.
Or an alternative to that fight from the long game, but instead of Shane leaving as Ilya asks, they actually talk it out

“It’s-it’s complicated.” He catches the present tense too fucking late to do anything about it, and he barely resists the urge to either groan or slip forward to start beating his head against the coffee table.

“You’re still…seeing this person?” His mom asks, and the amount of control he can hear her exerting is almost painful. “Who is-”
“Yuna,” his dad cuts in, voice quiet, “maybe give him a second, yeah?”
Yeah, Shane agrees in his head. Give him a second.
Maybe give him a decade while they’re at it.

PenAndInkPrincessShane got a fake id so that he could rent rooms to meet up with ilya in before he was 21. When yuna accidentally sees it later it kicks off yuna and david knowing shane has a 'partner' and shane not leaving during the tuna meltdown bc he doesn't want to have to explain to his mother hes not seeing his partner anymore
