The suspense, how terrified shane is for ilya the entire time is so well conveyed.

    Ilya feels Shane’s fingers fist in his curls, holding tight as if Ilya could ever bring himself to pull away.

    Shane doesn’t know that Ilya could never, that he cannot fathom turning his back to take even one step away from him.

    All he can do is push Shane away, make him walk first, and pick up the pieces left behind.

     

    Or an alternative to that fight from the long game, but instead of Shane leaving as Ilya asks, they actually talk it out

    Shanes aproach to russian in this series is so sweet
    I love the way shanes struggle with having this secret relationship he would choose over all his others and the way he butts heads with yunas overengagement in his life is handled. (Love david figuring out to some extent and just trusting shane to handle it and being proud of how hes protecting his spouse)
    Love it when the boston bears are absolute himbos but so supportive + scott being tormented by marlow due to his terrible gaydar

But if he had been asked, Ilya would have approved of this prank. He would have authorized it, given Cliff and Vicky his seal of approval, perhaps even helped orchestrate it.

    Any other day, Ilya might have been happy to play along.

    But, in perfect dramatic irony, it had not happened any other day. It had happened today. And, cherry on top, of course the rookie had to walk in when Shane was already freaking out about Ilya saying his name.
