Nettles stood there with a bright-eyed smile and an outstretched hand holding a warm mug filled with liquid life. He was essentially still a detective rookie, but his couch was the only one offered when a broken Maggie Sawyer needed a couch cushion while retreating from that apartment, that planned life with Alex Danvers.
She was determined not to allow this breakup break her.
Sure, she could break down, cry, scream and beg. But that was not Maggie Sawyer.
Her style was never to plead when someone didn’t want her. Maggie had learned her loyalty was only to herself.
Everyone else left, pushed her away or didn’t care.
Alex Danvers would not break her.

New city, new job, new friends, new apartment--clearly the only thing Maggie was missing was a jerk-face alien with a mystery to solve. Oh look. There she is.

Summary
When ICE come to CatCo and reveal that someone has tipped them off that Kara Danvers is an illegal alien extraterrestrial, there's a scramble to try to figure out how to get Kara a greencard.
Alex would do anything for Kara, has done everything for Kara. But entering into a sham marriage with her to sponsor her immigration petition might be a little too much. Or maybe the problem is that it isn't enough at all.
