    Summary

After summer break, everything is the same; more or less. Neteyam randomly stopped talking to him one day. He cut ties like it was nothing, seemingly without any given reason. Ao'nung tries to act unfazed. It happens - sometimes friendships simply mellow out. Even the close ones.
He has enough problems to deal with already anyway. His alcoholic mother, unpaid bills, school, and the failing grades that come with it. At least Rotxo is still there.
Tsireya urges him to reconnect. Her suggestion makes everything better. And worse. Ao'nung is not prepared for the avalanche that is about to hit him. He is not prepared for all of the confusing, foreign, and crushing feelings that come with it, either. He starts having weird dreams; about living and dying. Drowning and surviving. He hates having to deal with all that, so he doesn't. Instead, he focuses on holding his best friend's hand.

This fic is NOT a light read! Please mind the tags and the trigger warnings at the beginning of each chapter. If you're not ready for an emotional rollercoaster, please don't read this. There will be no graphic descriptions, or active S/H.

    Summary

Neteyam doesn’t move any closer to the latch of the gate, staying safely behind it where Ao’nung can’t touch him. He hides a smile and tilts his head, his hands lacing together briefly before falling apart.

“And what do we smell like? My magic and I.”

“Cinnamon,” Ao’nung says, low and dark, “and the lake out back.”

“Yeah?” Neteyam responds, fingers curling upwards as he feels power spark behind his palms.

“Mmhmm. I can smell it now. When I saw you do it, it was in the air, but I thought it was the magnolias. Then I touched you like I did, ‘round your waist. Realized it was you.” He drawls.

Neteyam flushes all dark at the memory and Ao’nung counts it as a small victory.

“You pay too much attention to me. You’ve gotta stop.”

“I don’t make it a habit to do what I’m told. Not when it comes to you. I told you that so,” he shrugs, “fair game.”

( the gothic au where the sully siblings are witches and ao'nung is two seconds away from risking it all just to kiss neteyam. )

    Summary

    Neteyam was to be wed.

Weeks ago, they received word from a Metkayina messenger that had traveled hundreds of miles to reach their people. Neteyam remembers the moment as though it happened yesterday.

A hunting group had brought them up to their encampment, he was strategizing future cargo raids with his father when the distant traveler was escorted in.

They were concerned at first, worried about the well being of the reef people that would have them send their own so far away. Neteyam believed that it had to be a cry for help— maybe that was exactly what it was.

To his surprise, it was an offering— an alliance through marriage .
