Summary
The end of the Cold War wasn't heralded by the fall of the Berlin Wall and German reunification, but rather with the fall of nuclear bombs across Europe, rendering the surface unsuitable for permanent habitation.
The remnants of humanity retreated underground, slowly rebuilding society over the decades. Battling overpopulation and skill shortages, some subterranean settlements reached out to others for help.
Yet one didn't.
In the aftermath of the Party's rise to power, the English settlement was withdrawn from all alliances and its independence and self sufficiency were championed.
The Party's priorities? Reduce resource consumption and increase standard of living.
Their slogan?
By any means necessary.

Summary
After his best friend dies in a tragic workplace accident, Apollo is desperate for an escape. He takes a sabbatical from his law job, packs up his apartment, and moves to his foster father’s old abandoned farm in Stardew Valley. What he’s looking for is a change of scenery, a project he can sink his teeth into to distract himself from the suffocating weight of Clay’s loss. What he finds is Trucy Wright, his teenage neighbour hellbent on inserting herself into his life, and Klavier Gavin, a famous musician who knows exactly what it’s like to want to hide from your problems.
Apollo doesn’t need friends and he certainly doesn’t need a boyfriend. If he doesn’t let anyone get close, then he won’t get hurt again when they inevitably leave him behind. Besides, he only intends to stay on the farm for a couple of seasons anyway. Why allow himself to get attached to people he’s only going to lose? Why fall for Klavier when he’s only going to break his heart?
However, as Apollo will soon learn, time really does heal all wounds, and love has a way of taking root whether you want it to or not.
