She justs her head in casual greeting as if she was the one who owned the place, her bare feet resting on the marble countertop wasn’t proof to the contrary. She’s got wild blonde hair that’s shorter on the left side than the right and her smile belongs to a psychopath instead of a murder. He doesn’t call the police.
“Who the hell are you?”
She sighs, licks the spoon in her hand front and back, hops off the counter, strides over so close that they’re sharing the same breath, and extends her hand.

It starts with two people staring out at a world they’d used to own. One has his hand pressed against the window pane as if he could reach out and be able to touch the mountain ranges covered in a fresh layer of snow or the tops of the sickly sweet smelling pine trees. The other has her arms crossed because she knows that only heartbreak lies with the feeling of cold glass between her fingertips. Reaching will achieve nothing yet she uncrosses her arms and takes his free hand in hers intertwining their fingers with a squeeze. They may not be on solid ground anymore, their lives spent floating aimlessly through dark matter, but the two of them will always remain a scarred king and broken princess together even beyond the end of the earth.

Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander have hated each other for three seasons. kind of hate where Ilya hit Shane into the boards so hard his ears rang for a week, and where Shane's smile after blocking Ilya's game-winning shot was the most devastating fuck you either had witnessed.
So when Ilya shows up at Shane’s apartment at 2am on a Tuesday, barely standing, blood dried at his hairline and his hands shaking so badly he can barely knock, Shane doesn’t understand what to do at first, or why Ilya is here, of all places.
He opens the door.
Ilya has a split lip, bruises turning dark across his cheekbone, His eyes are hollow in a way Shane’s never seen them before. He tries so hard to hold himself together, there’s something about seeing him like this. Ilya, who’s never been anything but sharp, mean and untouchable, that makes Shane’s chest feel like it’s ready to cave in.
“Jesus Christ” Shane breathes. “Ilya-”
“Didn’t know where else to go.” Ilya’s accent is thicker when he’s barely holding on, all his carefully practiced English slipping. He won’t look at Shane. “I-sorry. This was stupid. I’ll-”
