Caleb blinks, unsure whether to laugh or cry or simply exhale the breath trapped in his chest.The avalanche doesn’t kill them.

Separated from the rest of the Mighty Nein and forced into shelter by a relentless storm, Caleb finds himself trapped in close quarters with Molly and Jester - and confronted with the unfamiliar weight of being cared for when he can’t care for himself.
A hurt/comfort fic about being held through the cold, and what it means when someone chooses not to let go.

**MAJOR SPOILERS FOR 1x05 AND CALEB'S BACKSTORY (do not read below)**
the dream within a dream (aka: once upon a time, i murdered my parents) - but I couldn't call it that without spoilers, obviously.
“Let me tell you a story.”
Caleb never meant to tell the Mighty Nein the truth - not this soon, not like this, and probably not at all. But with his amulet shattered and the past closing in, silence is no longer protection.
In the clear, unforgiving morning light of a different farmhouse, he unravels the story of Bren Aldric Ermendrud: the dream he lived, the fire he cast, and the truth that broke him open.
What the Nein do with that truth will change everything.
This is the missing scene of how Caleb tells them his truth - and how they react to it.

Summary
Alan remembers looking a man in the eye and seeing his own death approach. He doesn't remember dying, but he sure as hell remembers being dragged back into the land of the living. The world is a much more complicated place.
