Summary
While you fuss with his wounds, you can feel his gaze on you. You’re not sure how, but you’re always able to tell when Mando’s staring at you and trying to figure you out.
He’s on the verge of passing out again; you can tell because each breath of his sounds like a pained wheeze and his head keeps falling forward before he pulls it back sharply.
“Stay with me, Mando. Talk to me. What happened?”
You hear him whisper some words, almost as if he is talking to himself. It’s hard to understand what he’s saying, but you continue working on stopping the bleeding. He mumbles some more and you freeze when you clearly hear him murmur, “Beautiful.”

Typically, watching you interact with the kid was endearing. He often found himself grinning like an idiot beneath his helmet while you taught him made up games or rocked him to sleep with a soft lullaby from your home planet.
But tonight, as you hand-fed the baby the plump purple berries you had picked up at the market earlier that day, occasionally popping one into your own mouth, it had affected him in an unwelcome way. He’d about lost it when a particularly ripe berry burst in your mouth, and you had used the pad of your thumb to wipe the syrupy juice from your chin before bringing it to your mouth to lick off. It was an innocent enough gesture that had provoked his impure thoughts, and, in that moment, he’d wanted nothing more than to taste you.

He takes a moment to reply, most likely wondering why he’s bothering to entertain a child when he should be inside, receiving his payment. “No,” he says evenly.
“Oh,” you repeat, wishing you had more to say. It’s not everyday you meet a hero – and this was your own personal one, wasn’t it? He did come here to take care of the bad guy, after all. With that thought in mind, you find yourself asking weakly, “Did you make the bad man go away?”
A small sigh escapes him and he steps away from the door – towards you. He kneels so he’s closer to your height and nods at you. “I did,” he rasps with a slight crack in his voice. “He can’t hurt you any more, little one.”
