No beats skipped. No flinching. Aonung assures himself that he’s doing great.
But then Neteyam has the audacity to laugh and say, “Won’t be homeless if you take me home.”
And as his heart skips a beat only to thump wildly against his ribcage, Aonung flips Neteyam the finger. Courtesy to Lo'ak for teaching him to curse the Sullys way–not that he's proud of using it, but screw Neteyam and his annoyingly endearing sleepy face! Aonung just wants him and this stupid fluttery feeling gone, for fuck's sake. Can't he have his normal life back?

Finally, They broke through the surface and Neteyam stopped struggling.
Aonung held onto Neteyam tightly, swimming on his back so the boy was resting on his chest.
(Aka Neteyam almost drowns and Aonung saves him. What happens after that? Who knows! Not me. Maybe this'll be a slow burn. I'll decide later)

“You know, I never thought I’d be here” Neteyam spoke up again. He peered over his shoulder and beemed up at a shell-shocked Aonung.
“Where? Awa'atlu? It is not that far of a journey from where you and your people come from” Aonung said nervously raising a faux inquisitive eye at this. Neteyam rolling his eyes at the boy.
“You know that’s not what I meant, Aonung” Neteyam said turning his gaze back down to the water beneath his feet.
