Aonung looked down at what Neteyam was holding.

He remembered attempting to throw the plate right into Neteyam's face, but the Mangkwan dodged, seeming to have expected it and breaking into a fit of laughter.
Neteyam had smiled so brightly, looking so damn pretty, that Aonung was barely able to stop himself from throwing a punch right into that frustratingly beautiful smile.
He hated that smile.
So much that he slept, dreamt about it, woke up, and had to shout into his pillow.

She shakes her bow and sobs watching him tend to his spear. “They were so close, Aonung. One cut, one slash and they would have been—“ her voice breaks along with his heart.
Aonung moves his spear to the side and stands. He refuses to see it, to even imagine a possibility where they weren’t fast enough, too late to save and protect. His wife looks at him beyond the fire burning between them, her golden eyes shimmer from the light of it, filled with memories he’s experienced with her and without. It’s the same ones their children have innocent and bright with hope.
He exhales, eyes wet and goes to her. He takes the bow from her hands heavy with bloodshed and duty. Kiri breathes and lifts her hand; she places it on his heart, still trembling. He covers her hand with his and grips it. He sees it in her eyes when she blinks away her tears—the immediate resolve to fight.
After the battle with the RDA, Kiri and Aonung find themselves in a new era of change and growth.
