To be clear, it was a favor forged out of mutual interest. Either side had something to gain from this deal. There were zero other reasons why Scar might’ve accepted Grian’s invitation without really considering it. Zero.
It didn’t matter that Scar had been too distracted by Grian’s mischievous grin to catch his question at first. It didn’t matter that his stomach had practically launched into his throat when the words actually did register. It didn’t matter that they were the same ones he’d fantasized about hearing for the better part of two years now.
“Scar,” Grian had said, dangerously earnest. “Go on a date with me.”

Summary
Scar was raised by a village that learned not to trust royalty.
When officials come to collect what it is not owed, Scar says no, and they reluctantly listen.
However, it is discovered that Scar is of royal blood.
By order of the Crown, Scar is taken from the river and brought to the castle.
The court hires another Prince to teach him proper manners and behaviour.
He is everything Scar distrusts. Flawless, patient and seemingly willing to be controlled.
He stands up for Scar, helps him when needed.
And Scar begins to wonder what the Crown took from him first.
