He watched as blood smeared the boards red. He watched as Shane’s body crumbled and hit the ice, with a crunch that seemed louder than any fan in the entire stadium. He watched as Shane just stayed on the ground and did not get up.
Or: Post-tuna melt, Ilya injures Shane on the ice and has to grapple with the consequences. It complicates things. It might make some things easier.

Bood is right about the fines, but Ilya’s worst habit is that he just can’t stop digging his own grave. Voronin is so goddamn smug, and Comeau is smirking like he’s punched Ilya in the face with his own championship ring; Ilya can’t help but want to make things worse.
Ilya yanks himself free of Bood and skates closer to the Voyageurs. He tilts his lips away from the cameras before he speaks. “I know you think you are Montreal’s new Shane Hollander, karlusha,” he whispers, “but you do not need to fuck me, too.”
Voronin shoves him away with a laugh. “I would rather be Montreal’s Shane Hollander than Shane Hollander’s Lily.”
And suddenly, Ilya knows why Comeau’s words were so familiar.
He drops his gloves and breaks the rookie’s perfect little teeth.

Ilya held Shane’s jaw like he did that first night and kissed him softly. “Yes, you should have, because I love learning new things about you, Hollander.”
“That’s nice. Almost worth the embarrassment of telling you I tied a whole-ass tie for a quick hookup,” Shane said, opening his eyes.
“Ah,” Ilya said, seeming to remember something, and opened a mischievous smile. “But I bet that was not the most embarrassed one of us felt that night.”
“I highly doubt that.”
“I bet I win,” Ilya sang a little.
“This is not a competition,” Shane said. “Or if it is, it’s the weirdest one we’ve ever had.”

Summary
When Gilbert Comeau targets Shane on the ice, causing a season-ending injury, Ilya sees red and nearly loses everything he ate at dinner.
It was a dirty hit; they all knew it. Ilya, devastated by Shane's injuries that left him semi-conscious in a hospital bed, learns what it means to have a family and what "for better or worse" meant in his wedding vows. His days are full of misunderstandings with his mother-in-law, panic, caring for his husband, and seeing his team step up for his family in times of injury.

Shane doesn't quite remember when he became Hollander. Somewhere between mites and middle school, people started to refer to him by his last name. But he vividly remembers the moment he realized he was Shane Hollander now. Teenage hockey phenom, someone to look up to. A brand. What he didn't realize then was how being Shane Hollander would make his world seem smaller. There are so many things Shane Hollander can't do.
OR
Shane is a good son who visits his parents on weekends. Shane Hollander is a professional athlete with a clean reputation. Hollander is a little freak who wants to get railed until he forgets he even has a name. And never the twain shall meet. So why the fuck is Rozanov calling him Shane now?
