Summary
Zoro’s hands are big, thick and knuckly and covered in calluses from his swords. He has a strong grip, too, and strong muscles because he trains them to be strong.
None of it explains the way Luffy’s body lights up when Zoro clasps the back of his neck, like every nerve is alight and trained on the palm cupping the baby hairs at the back of his skull. His stomach knots over itself and he wants to eat everything in Sanji’s kitchen. Zoro’s skin is a little rough and sweaty from fighting and warm.
Zoro is close, his forehead nearly butting Luffy’s and Luffy couldn’t move if he wanted to, trapped there by the closeness and the touch that makes him aware of Zoro’s skin against his in a way he’s never been before. Zoro’s eyes bore into his, digging deep into Luffy and dragging out—something, buried in the base of his spine. He feels like the earth is tilting, and freefall seems like it might be fun.

Zoro narrows his eye slightly, then closes it and nods. “Right, okay,” he repeats, and starts off after Luffy, who’s already on land and waving his arms, hollering like a lunatic. Then he stops, tilts his head, and squints into the devastatingly white-blue sky. “Huh. What’s the date today?”
“What?” says Nami. Zoro asks again, and Nami bites her thumbnail in thought. “Um… December 24. Why?”
Zoro just stands there for a long, long moment.

Zoro hasn't had anyone openly flirt with him in months... at least, not the way Ace does. Tempted by Ace's offer of a no-strings attached distraction, Zoro tries to shake off the ache of wanting a Captain who is too oblivious to notice.

“You wanna let me go,” Zoro says, still vibrating with adrenaline and nerves. Flirting with him was like this since the beginning: bruising and playfully combative. Law loves that about him though he’s never said it outright. Zoro smiles — three smiles now, that’s practically a winning streak — and Law presses him a little harder up against the door.
“Do I?”
“I might take your fucking arms off.”
“I’ll take yours first,” Law says, assured.
They’re close enough that he feels the ripple of anticipation that runs through Zoro, along his spine, all the way down through his legs.

Zoro shrugs. “He’s the captain. He’s gonna be King of the Pirates. With ambitions like that, the least he can do is survive.”
There’s a pause, and then Sanji laughs, “Y’know, he said something like that about you too. At the Baratie. Remember? That if you were gonna be his first mate, the least you could do was beat the strongest swordsman in the world.” A shadow crosses his face as he taps ash into the tray. “Right after you almost got cut in half.”

“Luffy fell in,” Zoro shrugs. Law thinks he may be the only person in the world who can convey both “Luffy fell in, he’s such a fucking idiot” and “Luffy fell in, what else was I supposed to do but follow?” in one line.
“I’m very sorry.” Luffy reaches up and pats Zoro on the chest.
“You’re a terrible liar.”
Luffy wheezes a short laugh. “I like swimming with Zoro.”
“Shut up, you little shit.”
“How about you both shut up and let me work,” Law grouses.

Stargazing and snow, festivals and dreams, and the quiet change in the dynamic between Law, Luffy, and Zoro during a few cold nights on the way to Zou.
