Summary
Maki loves her boys. She does, they’re her home in the way the clan never managed to be. But they don’t understand one crucial fact about what happened today. They think she’s hurt, because of what happened with her sister. And maybe she is, but not in the way they’re thinking. She’s stronger than that.
Her boys don't understand that Maki loves Mai ferociously. They don't, because they don't know Mai, because they're not women, because they're not Zenin, because they didn't grow up together, because of so many reasons Maki could go on listing the entire evening and still not be done.
She takes a deep breath and takes her phone out of her skirt pocket. Better get this over with.

Summary
Maki opens her mouth, then closes it again. She quiets too. She quiets like an ocean does in the aftermath of a terrible storm or perhaps on the cusp of one, the way any teenage girl thinks she is an ocean, but is really just footprints on wet sand, seashells clenched in a tight fist, a teeth-close shoreline of pain swallowing up damn near everything like hours.
I want you to know I'm not doing this for you.

Summary
Gojo is contacted one day near the end of 2016, by a girl named Maki. She tells him that she wants to go to Jujutsu tech but her family won’t let her. The Zenins think that she’s weak and so she’s going to become a sorcerer to spite them.
He knows what the Zenins are like as a clan and is always happy to get one over on the higher ups, so he agrees to help.
They’d planned for him to pick her up from the Zenin estate at the end of January, but when he arrives there he discovers that the Zenins’ cruelty extends much further than he expected.
He leaves with Ogi’s daughter, who is on death’s door, not knowing that Maki failed to mention she had twin along with quite a few other things.
(What if the perfect preparation arc occurs just before Maki leaves for Jujutsu high instead of in the wake of Shibuya)
