“Told him?” Cyno asks slowly, a wary glint in his eye. “What exactly haven’t you told him?”
“That I’m getting married,” Kaveh grimaces. “I wanted to tell him myself – I suppose I do want him at the wedding after all, you know – but I didn’t get a chance yet. You know what it’s like, trying to have a conversation with him.”

But it’s the wrong thing to say, because Techno whips around to face him. A flame illuminates his eyes and Phil suddenly realises they’re glistening. It’s times like this where he remembers how young Techno is, when his lips quiver under the strength of his tusks and his eyes (brown like Wilbur’s but so much lighter) shine with unshed tears he’d been keeping in since he was a child.
“I didn’t forget it,” Techno breathes. “I don’t think I can. But that doesn’t mean he stops being family.”
