Summary
Years later, they cross paths again, not as kids, but as adults carrying the weight of responsibility, grief, and lives that never quite turned out the way they imagined. Arnold is still the caretaker he’s always been. Helga is still sharp, guarded, and fiercely loyal, but both are worn down in ways they never learned how to name. Set in a quiet, aging boarding house that feels frozen in time, the story follows the slow rebuilding of connection: between two people who once meant everything to each other, and within a home that has forgotten what it feels like to be lived in. Small moments, shared routines, unexpected laughter, stubborn acts of care begin to soften old wounds.
This is a story about found family, quiet healing, and love that doesn’t arrive all at once, but grows in the everyday: in showing up, in staying, and in learning how to let someone else carry the weight with you.

Summary
Arnold sounds a bit out of breath, like he'd scrambled to the other end of his apartment to answer her call.
Which would have be cute—adorable even—had Helga not done this over a dozen times over a dozen years, and if she believed in it, a dozen lifetimes.
-- In which Helga makes an important phone call, in Alaska, wondering why the hell she's there in the first place.
