Sometimes, all it takes for the world to change...is a little timing. Suppose GUN found out that Gerald was jerking them around a little earlier, when Shadow wasn't as grown/developed? Suppose his escape pod was just damaged enough that GUN never found him, in all those years? What might he become, without Gerald's manipulations? What might he feel, younger and still bereaved? And what might he decide, in a little house by Never Lake, with the person who found him instead?
A look into how things might have gone for Shadow, if the worst day of his life hadn't been followed by GUN and Gerald each trying to outdo it. Rated T due to Maria's final moments, realistically described, and for references to emotional/psych abuse by Gerald to keep his medical experiment compliant.

Summary
Amy has set out on her own adventure, hoping to find who she is outside of Team Sonic. Setting her sights on a set of remote islands, she begins her quest to unearth the secrets held within.
Shadow's been assigned to monitor Eggman's activity, leading to a mad dash to obtain a fabled "Moonstone". Believing Amy might be of some use, he offers a roof over her head in exchange for her help in getting things done quick and easy.
As dreams meet reality and things aren't quite what they appear to be, can Shadow and Amy work together to keep the Moonstone Archipelago safe?

When Amy Rose goes to pick berries for a pie, it's not the only thing she brings home that day. Finding Shadow the Hedgehog alone and on the ground, she feels he needs help despite the rivalry between him and Sonic the Hedgehog. As she continues to invite Shadow into her home, they begin to create a meaningful connection with each other while keeping it on the "down low". The friendship between the two would soon lead Shadow to view Amy in a different light and hope to catch up to her.
