Summary
Mickey says in a quiet voice, “sometimes I wake up and I can’t move.”
Ian closes his eyes. Presses his face into Mickey’s skin and listens.
“Try to get my arm to move and it just doesn’t go. Or my legs, they don’t even twitch. I just lay there. Only thing I can do is breathe, and even then —”
Mickey swallows, hard. Ian can feel the muscles in his neck tensing, can hear the hard gulp of it cresting like a wave in his ear. Ian can imagine the expression on Mickey’s face without looking in the window’s reflection: the closed eyes, the pinched eyebrows, mouth clamped shut, jaw working around words his brain can’t bring himself to let go of yet.
He’s scared. Ian knows this, but he also needs Mickey to admit it before they can do anything about it.

Ian wakes up in the middle of the night alone in his own bed. That's not so usual anymore.
So Ian sets off to see where Mickey might have gone.

And then Ian opened his fucking mouth, and the recollection popped back up over the surface.
He rocked Mickey back and forth and muttered, "You're brave, Mickey. So, so, brave." This made Mickey start crying again—when did he ever fucking cry?—and this prompted Ian to add brokenly, "I've got you, baby. I've got you."
Baby.
It was the first time either of them ever utilized a pet name. If Mickey wasn't in such a state, there was a chance he wouldn't let it slide, wouldn't allow Ian to ever use it again. It confused Mickey how a single word made him feel much safer, as if Ian splayed a blanket over him and warmth fulfilled his body. Or maybe it wasn't the name; it was the fact that Ian was there, holding him in the dead of night, as Mickey continued to recover from an event that plagued him for years.

Summary
Mickey continues to regress as a Little. Our sweet 5 year old is triggered by a memory of the bad man and is having time accepting comfort.
Daddy Ian calls in reinforcements, their alter guild , bingo running powerhouse, Gladys.
Gladys is one of three people who knows Mickey regresses. In little space she becomes the ultimate indulgent and pampering grandmother to the little.
With Ian they spend the day reinforcing that the bad man won’t be back and he is safe and loved. Bad memories are moved to replace with good.
