The other man laughed.
It reminded Arthur too much of Kayne for comfort.
“Oh,” the man said, laughter petering out, “You’re serious.”

Arthur felt his hand, his left hand— the one not around the cane— as John picked it up. His new digits, the ones that weren’t shaped like Arthur’s hands— human, barely, and longer— ran over every callous as if to memorize them by touch alone.
“…smooth.”
There was silence for a moment. Just skin buzzing against skin.
“Sometimes,” John said, “I think about asking you to bite it off again.”
He said it like it would be a gift.
“Jesus Christ, John.”
“Yeah.”
What’s worse was that Arthur would be willing to do it for him, too.

One of my fave plot-based labyrinth fics. I love that the focus of the fic is not on romance so much as on connections— connections between people, between places, between questions and answers. It’s always so hard to find a plot-based labyrinth fic that isn’t about purely Sarah escaping the power Jareth has over her in the world of Fae (not that those don’t have their place! I enjoy them from time to time) but recently I’ve been feeling such a craving for something more. It makes me want to write a sprawling mystery, too!

Bookmarking both because I enjoyed, but also in small hope that the author will get to see this! Lord knows I check my fic bookmarks often enough on hard days. I just think it’s a very wonderful, accurate depiction of sibling trauma. Having had to have a similar talk with my older sibling— I remember how he told me, with some shock “Of course I’m proud of you,” when I’d brought up our issues. And I remember saying back, teary-eyed and hurt, “How could I know that if you’ve never told me?” — I found this to be achingly familiar in that regard. It’s incredible— all the small moments we keep with us, that build and build until the adults we become can’t remember what it’s like without that little shadow anymore. Even all the moreso incredible to have the realization that the people who made them don’t even remember pushing you into the dark. It’s so easy, I think, to hurt other people. Careless words, careless thoughts, careless actions, especially as children, which is perhaps why I find it surprising how few things I’ve read which truly articulate the depth of the sibling bond. The lingering hurt which can come with years of not-talking and parents who don’t notice and too many arguments as children that seem silly in retrospect. A purposely broken toy here, a scream of, “I hate you!” there, and these things imprint on you. It’s very easy to feel small in the face of someone older than you— someone you are always told is wiser than you, has your best interests at heart, and so on and so forth (and don’t those dismissals make you feel all the smaller). It’s also very easy to feel big when everyone tells you that that’s what you are— especially if you’re handsome and skilled and older and have always been liked— so big that it might not occur to you that other people can feel small in the way small people do.
TLDR: great fic! Much enjoyed. -

Summary
Cloud and Genesis meet because they share an unhealthy coping mechanism: they both fuck to cope. One night in a club turns into a relationship, turns incredibly awkward when Zack Fair and Angeal Hewley, their respective thought-to-be-dead exes, turn up. Any stability they manage to find is scrapped when Sephiroth claws his way back out of the Lifestream, and they have to try and make sense of things all over again.
I promise this will eventually be AGSZC, it's just gonna take a while to get there

Good insight into a part of the kink community I struggle with. Can’t finish it rn, but maybe one day I’ll be able to. I’m curious if I can’t finish it because the idea of a 24/7 power dynamic makes me uncomfortable, or because I like it. I don’t know, it could be both. For now, no pushing myself tho— can read up to the first 15-20 chapters again on re-read if I want it to read pre-new dynamic.
