“You know she was worried about this trip ‘cos you were such an asshole back in the Amazon?” Gar barked, heaving up his years of spite like a raucous cough that had been stuck in him for too long. “And I said it would be fine. So now I’m the asshole!”
Steve watched his son seethe where he stood, watched the tears gather over burning, sage eyes.
“She’s incredible,” he croaked. “And instead of believing that, you’re gonna keep doubting her till she ‘proves’ she’s good enough for you.”
Steve swallowed.
“Just like you did with me...”
