Summary
“So... you’re a transfer student?” Jayce ventures, trying to fill the silence.
Viktor shakes his head. “Exchange student. From The Czech Republic. I was in a dorm, but the elevator is broken more than it works. Housing made arrangements.” He sets his suitcase down and adjusts his cane, his movements precise but clearly strained.
“Right,” Jayce says, feeling a flicker of guilt for his earlier irritation. “Well, uh, welcome, I guess. Your room’s down the hall on the left.”
Viktor doesn’t respond, already moving toward the hallway without waiting for further instructions. Jayce watches him disappear into the room, the door clicking shut behind him.
He flops back onto the couch, grabbing his phone to text Caitlyn again:
Jayce: He hates me already.
Caitlyn: Don’t so be dramatic. Give it time. Maybe bake him cookies or something.
Jayce: He doesn’t seem like a cookie guy. More like... brooding and vaguely annoyed at my existence.
Caitlyn: Perfect. You’re great at brooding and vaguely annoying. 😘

Jayce desperately wants to rub at his forehead, but the binding at his wrist stops him. He settles for squeezing his eyes shut. “Why?” he asks.
Viktor is silent for barely a moment. He says, tonelessly, “I assumed this was preferable to dying.”

Summary
Viktor is nearing his limit. Ignoring his colleague's obscenely "friendly" touches while inside and outside their lab is becoming impossible. Since the day they met, Jayce has been challenging Viktor's willpower. Viktor wants him. And he's pretty sure Jayce is up for it. Though concern over remaining professional and choosing a solitary lifestyle have kept Viktor in check... so far.
All Viktor needs to do is give himself the green light and get out of his own way. And when that happens, Jayce Talis better hope there's something sturdy nearby to hold onto.
(Inspired by the idea that Viktor had "closed up shop" but then Jayce shows up and he's like, "jk i'm open but for him only".)

Summary
Where Jayce is emotional, with a curious peculiarity that had caused him to go through a lot with his bed partners: tears came easily, all it took was a very intense emotion for his body to externalize through tears, and this mainly included intimate moments. No one had ever known how to deal with it, leading to a series of embarrassing encounters and countless possible failed relationships. Already frustrated with these unsuccessful attempts to find someone who wouldn't be surprised by the fact that he literally cried in pleasure, Jayce simply stopped trying, completely shutting himself off from his love life, all to avoid the fatigue of dealing with yet another occasion where he would feel like a complete misfit when the night was over.
Or
Where Viktor finds himself forced to sleep in Jayce's apartment to protect himself from a storm after months of slowly building a relationship. The moment unfolds with the first night of physical involvement between the two of them, and also with the inevitable discovery that Jayce had feared so much.
Or even
Where such a feared event turns into a delightful, unpremeditated twist, but definitely far from being unwanted.
