She shows him how cruel she can be. She nips at his thigh.
He yelps, jerks in place, then wheezes in disbelief, the sound ridiculous like the whistle of a boiling kettle. "That's not very princess-like of you."
She childishly sticks her tongue out at him. "Keep teasing and I'll give you a real bite."
She understands she can be a lot. She is a lot. But it's not like he isn't either. It makes whatever they've got going on between them pleasantly more chaotic. What are Amy and Sonic if not chaotic?

When Amy falls sick, Sonic spends the night at her home to care for her. Unfurtently for him, Amy's got just enough energy to mess with him.

She’s familiar with what the news is saying about her. Speculations; questions; rumors. She doesn’t give out answers, and her self-proclaimed mate running around the word only has desperate requests to give: “She’s my mate. Was she here? Can you tell me where she said she’s off to?”
It has people asking many questions. Those two are mates, or fated soulmates, judging by that hero's words, so why is she running? Lying? Denying they were mates? What happened? What went wrong? Is she breaking the sacred mate bond with him? Snapping the String of Fate? Was that it?
They still broadcast the live event on the radio, sensationalizing this mystery regarding the Blue Blur and the Rose that does not want to be found.

A Soulmate AU. Amy's cards tell her she'd meet her fated soulmate. And she does. Only, things don't go the way she hopes. After a series of childish mistakes, the two are separated by the forces of life. She's ready to move on. Is trying to, at least. Tails had to witness just how much of a hedgehog his brother and Amy can really be at times.
Sonic couldn't lecture Amy about stubbornness. He couldn't tell her to stop being a hedgehog. She closed her eyes to laugh some more, her half-curled fist politely near her mouth. She might’ve missed the soft, passionate look in Sonic's eyes when he looked at her.
But Tails saw it.
His big brother lost in love.
Or,
Tails watches as his big brother gradually falls hard for the other hedgehog. Hedgehogs aren't subtle creatures, after all.
