“Convenient, then, that this is not a first date.”

“Damn, so ya ended up with a patient ya coulda gotten someone else to admit, and ya got stuck workin’ Christmas.” He’s not sure why he expected Kiyoomi to do anything else but shrug, but he did, and now the chill is growing and leaving an emptiness behind. “Hey, at least it’s not a twenty-four like mine is.”
“It is what it is,” is all Kiyoomi says. “I offered to work. It’s not like I have kids. Christmas is just a day.”
“Just a day?” Atsumu squawks, flailing his arms around like one of those wacky inflatable guys that stand outside of car dealerships. “Just a day?”
“Yeah?”
Clenching his fist against his chest in a perfect imitation of Levine’s sign, Atsumu shakes his head. He is fucking flabbergasted. “Them’s fightin’ words, Omi.”
