Summary
Do you believe in God?
I do, please stop, there is so much blood.
The boy never intended to return to Broken Bow Nebraska. Neither did the man. Dennis Whitaker couldn’t go back there, not because he wasn’t wanted but because they asked him too. They needed him to go, they said it had to be him. No one else.
So, he did what they asked. What they needed of him. But, when a young girl is murdered, the FBI approaches Dennis, the only witness of a religious cold case from the 2010s, and is asked to aid in the investigation in hopes of destroying it forever, Dennis realizes Broken Bow Nebraska never left him. He doesn’t know it yet but he doesn’t have to go back alone.

Summary
Dennis Whitaker has always been good at holding it together, until he isn’t.
After a panic attack leaves him shaken in the middle of the Pitt, Dennis begins to question everything: his competence, his place, and whether the things he’s spent years burying will ever loosen their grip.
He doesn’t talk about home. He definitely doesn’t talk about the way his heart stutters when Dr. Robinavitch smiles at him, or when Jack Abbott calls him kid with that crooked grin.
They’re married. They’re happy. They’re kind to him. That has always been enough.
Until a patient forces Dennis to face the parts of himself he’s spent years refusing to name. Trauma doesn’t stay quiet, and neither does the anger that comes with it. As old wounds resurface, Dennis is pushed to confront how deeply his past still shapes him and whether healing is possible when you’ve spent so long just surviving.
The Pitt is about saving lives. Dennis is starting to wonder if anyone can save his.

Summary
Dennis matched at the Pitt because the program is excellent.
That's the reason. He's not examining any other reasons.
Intern year. He's back on the floor. Robby remembers everything Abbot told him. Abbot still has the clicker. Dennis still doesn't know why the sound of it does what it does to him.
He stays anyway.

Summary
“Do you actually have a place to live?”
Dennis has never been a good liar, and Jack Abbot’s unrelenting stare might as well be a polygraph test.
“I’m currently between places,” he admits.
Abbot works his jaw, head tilting to the side as he continues to assess Dennis like he’s a patient in his ED.
“Do you own a car?” He asks, his voice sounding softer to Dennis but maybe it's just dampened by the sound of his own pulse in his ears.
“Not at the moment, no, I’m actually-”
“Between cars?” Abbot finishes for him.
Shame pushes Dennis’s head down. “Yeah, something like that.”
Abbot continues to stare at him -does this guy ever blink?- before he sighs and shakes his head.
"Alright, pack your shit," He orders, clearly having heard enough.

Jack discovers Dennis instead of Trinity. Behind closed doors, neither of them is really holding it together, and an unlikely support system is formed.
