“I thought you wore glasses so you could see better?” Elphaba teases, setting the rag aside and reaching for her hand. Glinda scrunches her nose, lowering her head as she tries to hide from Elphaba’s gaze. But she couldn’t escape her, she shouldn’t. Her finger curls under her chin, lifting her head just enough so their eyes could meet.
When they do, it feels like the world has stopped. The silence suddenly calmed instead of deafening. Elphaba smiles at her, one of dashing smiles that she couldn’t stop thinking about, and she leans in, close enough that she was able to hear Glinda’s breath hitch. “Do you know why it didn’t work?”
She knew. Oh, Oz, she knew. But she couldn’t bring herself to admit it. How could she be so blind? How could she be so oblivious?
“It doesn’t work if the person is already in love with you.” She says breathlessly, now unable to tear her eyes away from her, “But… That’s not possible, is it?”

Post-canon, Cal and Jules run into each other on a hunt and are forced to deal with past traumas and face the love for each other that never left. Sidenote: They are aged up but still go to the same high school, for reasons that will be made clear throughout the fic. ;)
