"Samarra is unavoidable, brother mine." He smiled as he reached for his umbrella. Twiddling it in his hands like a stress ball.
"Well this was avoided, so it clearly isn't Samarra."

Summary
Mycroft was too grown for this bed, for this room. For this house. The mere sight of the room weighed on his heart. He could smell the thin layer of dust that covered every surface in the room, on his beautiful dark wood desk, all the plans he made on it, all the piles of books and papers and gadgets he left behind, exactly the way he last saw them. It hadn’t been that much time since he left, the house remained exactly the same as it always had been. Mycroft wondered if he was the one changed past the point of recognition. Maybe if he stayed still enough, the same thin layer of dust would preserve him, like a fly in amber.
