It's a routine patrol, genuinely. This sort of attack, raiding a trafficking ring's warehouse, is perfectly normal for underground heroes, including the apprentices only six months out of school.And yet here Izuku is, struggling to breathe in his hero's arms.

"Less of the old, kid."
"Less of the kid, Shouta," Izuku laughs, a subdued mirth that fits how the shadows weigh gently upon them both, the almost-silence of the night.And Shouta can't help but to squeeze Izuku's hand, oh-so gently,
"You'll always be my kid, kid.""I don't mind that," Izuku murmurs, content enough that it sounds sleepy. Shouta stays quiet, letting it settle, not wanting to keep Izuku awake if he's about to sleep again. The kid certainly needs the rest.
If it's also a little bit because he has to breathe through Izuku giving him such blatant permission to simply adore his kid, then that's just between Shouta and his lungs.
(Wherein underground apprentice Izuku gets hurt on a raid, and his hero is there to look after him, in hospital and then at home, supporting and comforting him throughout it all, and standing beside Izuku as they settle back into their normal lives.)

Summary
Shouta is having a bad night, and Izuku notices, comes to comfort him, to remind him that they didn't break.
And Hizashi gets home hours later to find them asleep, calm, and gets them set up for a content day together.~~~
Some combination of all of this is why, when he has woken up from a quiet nightmare for the third time tonight, Shouta isn't all that surprised to have a quiet knock on his ajar door, dark curls tumbling through the gap. Green eyes, too-bright for how dark the room is, blink at him.
"Want some company?"
"If you're about," the man returns, not wanting Izuku to feel pressure, but also unwilling to push him away right now. (Not when he's just watched Izuku die two-dozen times in his memories, clutching at blood and bone and gone-slack hands-)
Izuku doesn't quite falter at Shouta's bedside, but his hand wavers at the edge of it, until Shouta flicks over the edge of the blankets, inviting Izuku underneath too.
