Summary
If there is one thing Buck will always do, it is help people. Doesn't matter what sort of danger it puts him in, or who the person is, he will jump in feet first and get the job done. When he's alone in a parking lot late one evening, of course he's going to run towards the woman yelling that her father is having a heart attack. Why wouldn't he?
When he doesn't show up for his shift the next morning, Eddie and the rest of the 118 immediately know something is very, very wrong. But this time, there's not much they can do about it. There's no ladders to climb, no debris to move. Buck just isn't where he's supposed to be.

"Eddie,” Buck breathed. “I just want to be married to you.”
“Yeah?” Eddie asked because he felt like he had to say something, like he had to be sure, even with Buck wearing his ring and refusing to take it off even to shower when they got into the accommodations.
“Yeah.” Buck weaved their fingers together, the ring warm against Eddie’s skin, and he lifted their arms up until they were still linked, but resting on the pillow above his head.
Eddie smiled and reached his free hand down to bend Buck’s bad leg at the knee, “Let’s fucking do that, then.” He kissed him, a little messily, hard enough that he could feel Buck’s moan against his lips.

He really liked the sound of that.

Eddie's healed from being shot, but he's not really healed, is he, when he keeps forgetting he's not in Afghanistan. Buck's still healing too, though it's easier when Eddie's working at dispatch instead of in the field. The boys are engaged, they've got a wedding to plan and family to grow closer to.
It's season five... let's see just how strong these foundations are.

Summary
Eddie Diaz starts his first shift at the 118. A major earthquake strikes the city a few weeks later, and suddenly not just one but two of Buck's siblings are trying to reconnect with him. Bobby's trying hard to get some alone time with his girlfriend, but it's a little hard with a roommate (who he insists is not actually his son). Chimney keeps meeting a beautiful woman near his apartment. Hen and Karen are just trying to get five minutes of peace for their family.
Or, Part 2 (season 2) of the canon rewrite where Buck ended up in foster care, Daniel lived, and everything is just a little bit different.

After Eddie goes through an entire box of Frank’s tissues in a week and finally manages to read through those reddit stories without flinching, he tells Frank, “I think I want to have sex. Like with a man. Gay sex.”
Frank tilts his head, pressing the tip of his middle finger against the space between his eyebrows, and sighs. He makes a note — Eddie wonders, half-hysterical, if he’s writing down the words gay sex — and then taps the end of his pen against his knee as he meets Eddie’s eyes.
