Peter had forgotten how good it felt to have a friend. What started as routine patrols turned into late-night dinners, intense Mario Kart tournaments, and binging old reruns of The Golden Girls (and, on occasion, Love Island). Tacos and heated debates about anything under the sun became a regular thing, and for the first time in a long time, Peter found himself laughing—really laughing.
He smiled, he chuckled (once he even giggled, though he’d never admit it), and he laughed so hard his sides hurt. Peter now had a mental catalog of all Deadpool’s laughs: the soft smile when they were eating and Wade had his mask rolled up just enough to take a bite, the cheeky, shit-eating grin when he made a filthy joke, the manic cackle when he launched into battle, and that high-pitched giggle whenever Peter dared to fire back with something filthy of his own.
Peter caught himself whistling the same tunes as Wade at work, and he always knew he’d have a slew of texts waiting for him when he checked his phone. He even knew Wade’s go-to order at pretty much every hole-in-the-wall joint across most boroughs...
He was happy. And wasn’t that something? Yeah, Peter was in it pretty deep.
