“I didn’t come here to insult you Kai.” Oh the way he said his name. Man was this testing his resolve.
“So what are you here for then? A lecture on brotherly affection?” Kai scoffed. There was the briefest of silences.
“I see you’re not in the mood to talk then. I’ll leave you be.” There was a moment of panic in Kai’s chest at the thought of Cole leaving him, but then again, he already had. Why should it be any different in the physical reality?
Rated Teen and Up for the briefest mention of sex and swearing lols.

“Soulmarks?” Kai repeated from across the table. “Why are you thinking about soulmarks? You’re, like, the only person here who’s actually found theirs.”
Nya shrugged, knowing there was no way she was going to say what she’d actually been thinking in front of everyone. “I don’t know. Why are you guys so confused by the fact I just so happened to be thinking about soulmarks?”
Cole shrugged back. “We don’t talk about them that much, I guess,” he said, and that was that. But there was something about Kai’s loud incredulousness and Cole’s quiet dismissal that intrigued Nya. Maybe she was onto something. And when Nya had a gut feeling, when she had a mystery to solve, she didn’t quit easily.

Nya doesn't have any reason to care about soulmarks, having been years since she's found her own soulmate, but a sudden realization changes everything - the unexpected knowledge that Cole shares a soulmark with none other than Nya's own brother. From there, Nya is sent spiraling into a world of scheming, suddenly determined to find a way to bring the two together before the universe can run its course.
Why? Well, there's not really anything else to do, is there?
