Everyone has a creature companion.
Kurosawa’s is a small, serpentine eastern dragon named Kanpai — charismatic, perceptive, and deeply frustrated by seven years of watching its human consciously restrain his feelings for Adachi.
Adachi’s companion is a freshwater turtle named Nibby, calm and gentle and entirely unaware that it's the center of Kanpai’s attention.
As Kanpai grows increasingly bold in its attempts to befriend (aka flirt with) Nibby at the office, Kurosawa finds himself fighting a losing battle to keep his feelings contained.
Especially when Adachi remains oblivious — and Kanpai absolutely refuses to be.

Everyone thought the pretense was ridiculous, but their classmates and families decided to wait politely while the two got their act together.
