He shoves his coins into a pocket. Rey glares at the slave stationed at the closed door who catches the shiny glint in her fist.
“Let me help?” The groom holds out a hand for the dress balled up against her tits and belly. He gives her a beseeching look and for a startling moment, Rey’s anger is clawing back up her throat. What must she look like to them both? A startled pole snake? A mouse staring at the paw of the cat?
Then, softly: “Please.”

She was being a little shit and she knew it. But deflection has always been her go-to prerogative. Because what else could she really say? That her many weeks of work have only yielded results in the form of a handful of bucked rides? That the mare was more liable to rip the reins than sit comfortably under saddle? That she was nowhere near safe for an open arena ride instead of being mounted in the small, fenced pens?

Or: Rey takes on work as a ranch hand for the Organa-Solo family, especially if it means she can continue to fail to train her new horse. She only has to survive the mortification of Ben's inquisitiveness for calling her out on her bullshit
