Summary
Eiji starts shaking a little. He barely notices it, taking note of it like it's someone else's body. Someone who doesn't deserve comfort, though. He knows that much.
Ash turns over in his sleep, and Eiji's breath stops.
No, he thinks, even his thoughts hushed. Please stay asleep. You need your rest.
But Ash's eyes slip open after a moment, and Eiji curses under his breath in Japanese. His breathing is still unsteady.
"Eiji ... ?" Ash mumbles, sitting up now. "What's wrong?"
And how did he know immediately that something was wrong at all? Eiji isn't crying—he's not shaking anymore. He's holding his breath. There's no way Ash could know, but he still does. Picking up on the tiniest signals. He just cares about Eiji so much.
And Eiji takes advantage of that every day. Just like so many others have taken advantage of Ash ...
He starts crying, now, and he knows on some level that he's going to take advantage of Ash's kindness again.
Ash comforts Eiji.
