Buck's blood runs cold. Something's wrong with Eddie? His mind jumps to worst-case scenarios before he registers that Tommy's still speaking.
“I figured maybe you could talk to him? Snap him out of it, or something, since you're his friend.”
Best friend, Buck mentally corrects.
“Wh—what,” he swallows, trying to steady his voice. “What do you mean? What's wrong with Eddie?”
Tommy sighs through the phone. “I don't know. One minute he was fine, and the next it was like…like he wasn't even here. He got all pale and started shaking, and he won't respond to anything I do or say. It's like he can't see or hear me. It's a little freaky.”
