Fingertips coated in wood-dust, Ryan's thumbs slid uselessly across the glass. He squinted against the burst of pain behind his eyes from the sun's reflective glare, swiping his thumb along the bottom of the screen in the general area his muscle memory dictated would give him what he wished. It took a few tries until the call accepted.
"Hello?"
A single ragged sob echoed over the line.
It's been months since either of them have seen the entity.

Naim feels his heart drop to his ass as he looks into Ryan’s eyes, blue and shining. The last time Naim saw him, Ryan was eighteen-and-a-half years old. They had been arguing for the entire day and crying for the last two hours that they saw each other. Despite all the hurtful things they had said to each other, they still ended up lying on their dingy mattress, legs intertwined. Naim remembers that Ryan’s curls had been frazzled in between his fingers, and his eyes were rimmed red with tears as they traced the features of Naim’s face.
