Summary
A few years ago, a certain Nori Doorman leaves the bunker to kill the metal sky demons with her sick as hell railgun she built and retrieve the Patch to ensure her daughters safety. Things don’t exactly go to plan. For starters, she kinda failed at step one, which was to kill them. Secondly, she seems to have “accidentally” made a friend out of the one they call Serial Designation N, and the attention loving doofus just doesn’t seem to leave her alone. Well, at least he’s not trying to kill her, so that’s a good thing, right?
Wrong! N’s seemingly endless desire to be around Nori turns out to be the development of a crush, but she’s already married and has a kid for god’s sake!
Now, in the present day, Uzi doorman leaves the bunker to kill the metal sky demons with her sick as hell railgun she built. Things don’t exactly go to plan. For starters, she fumbled at step one, which was to kill them. Secondly, the one who calls himself Serial Designation N apparently knows her mom, and has been looking for her ever since she died all those years ago. N doesn’t believe that’s what actually happened, and if he thinks her mom’s still alive, does she really have anything to lose by helping him look for her?

If Jax really didn’t care, he would watch on eagerly as she pulled the trigger on herself. Hell— he’d probably even laugh. Cartoon logic— she’ll give him just that.
Pomni takes a deep breath. “I understand.”
Disturbingly calm, she turns over her shoulder. She presses the barrel to the space between her eyes, and pulls the trigger.
The circus, and everything in it, goes dark.

Now the illusion lingers, twisting his thoughts, blurring what’s real and what isn’t.
Deep down, he’s scared. Deep down, he cares. But admitting that would mean tearing down the walls he’s spent so long building.
…unless they’re already starting to crack.

Summary
“Hey Jax..” Pomni starts to call out quietly but upon seeing the back of his shoulders tense further she pauses.
Are you okay? She wants to ask.
But her gut tells her that that might not be the best approach with Jax yet. The memory of him hunched over the buttons console in despair, raw and full of hurt comes unbidden.
“...What is this place?” She asks instead, relieved to see that his shoulders slightly sagged down as if in relief.
Jax cracked one eye open and glanced lazily toward the far wall.
“No idea,” he said. “Just another one of those rooms.”

Somehow, they've all escaped the circus alive and Jax's life still sucks. He never wanted to escape in the first place, it was all Pomni's idea. And of course she's not even here.
