    Bookmarker's Notes

A beautiful, heartfelt series exploring the family found in unlikely places, the meaning of home, a love beyond words, and one's place in the stars. It's a read worth every minute, word, and tear, with a playlist that lets you live it all over again. Every character is written with care, each line a demonstration of the author's passion across scenes that will make you laugh, cry, hold your breath, and remember what it means to be alive. Sam Shepard makes it hard to imagine the Commander any other way, each piece of him—from the Butcher to the Savior to the man—learned through the eyes of others as you meet Shepard for the first time as his own person. From the crew of original characters in Cantata to those we already know and love in Concerto and beyond, Opus shows every voice is worth hearing and each story worth telling even in matters beyond the fate of the galaxy. We get to fall in love with Kaidan Alenko all over again, and cheer him on as we watch him learn to love in kind through the calm and the chaos. It's a reimagining of Mshenko I didn't know I needed until I found it, and now I simply can't recommend it enough. Through pancakes, stars, sunrises, and rain, we watch them choose each other again and again—finding home in the sound of honest laughter and the warmth of one another's arms. They find their everything.

Based off this Tumblr text post by s4mm4n:
God I miss the days when you could show up to a strangers farm and he’d say “Whats your name, boy?” and you’d take off your hat and hold it to your chest to better let him see your face and reply “Why I aint got one sir, on account of my mammy passed on before she could give me one” and he’d tell you he’s real damn sorry to hear that and ask what he can do for you and you’d tell him that you can’t read nor even write neither but you’re mighty good with horses and can mend them fallen fence posts what you saw on your way in and won’t ask for nothing much more than a hot meal and a warm barn to sleep in and he’d keep his wife and daughters inside but send his boy who aint for married even though his mama tells him he needs a woman out with a lantern and some stew at night and the two of you’d get to talking and he’d throw you his flask to take a swig from and watch you drinking from it while he leant against the door frame and when he finally got called back on up to the house again he’d take a sip from it too real slow-like like it weren’t the whiskey what he were tryna savor

WARNING: Halfway through this story, it becomes about family loss and tuberculosis.

So, SO good! I've had this in my bookmarks for a while and finally sat down to read it and lemme tell you: it did not disappoint!

From it's wonderful characters to it's thoughtful, sorrow filled storyline, this is a book I'd own, a movie I'd watch, and a song I'd play on repeat! Powerful and poetic in everyway! I absolutely recommend! <3

Oh my goodness, I can't even begin to express how amazing this fic is! I spent 2 days reading it from start to end, and I don't regret a single minute of it! The talent and passion of this author is so easily visible through their writing, and it makes for a beautiful story and an amazing read! If you really want my full review, you can find my rather lengthy comment on the last chapter, but it does contain spoilers, so I'd say to just take my word for it and read this brilliant piece! ❤️
