It is a golden age for Mutants. Charles Xavier Academy for Gifted Youngsters, led by Headmistress Ororo Munroe, operates as a school for both any and all Mutants who need it, under the sanction of the US Government. On the sovereign island nation of Genosha, the reformed Brotherhood of Mutants have built a sanctuary for adult Mutants, especially those with criminal backgrounds. However, this worldwide peace is shattered when Magneto, a figurehead in the Mutant world, and Governor of Genosha, is killed.
