    JJ’s jaw dropped. Hayden let out a weird, choking sound. Troy started laughing, but it also sounded like he was crying. Wyatt and Cliff looked at each other, huge smiles taking over their faces.

    “He’s who I had sex with this morning,” Shane continued, oblivious to the table’s reactions. “Twice.” He added cheerfully.

    It was supposed to be a casual night out with friends - until, JJ and Hayden show up, with Shane (his secret boyfriend).

    Shane is panicking, of course, so Ilya pours him some vodka, as an emergency option. This turns out to be a mistake. Lips get loose, and secrets are revealed.

He knew how to make this moment happen and he knows what they have to be to each other now that it's over. But as he turns the doorknob to leave, he's stopped with questions he never expected. And giving Shane Hollander what he needs in that moment will change everything.

    Author's notes: I’m autistic and see a lot of myself in Shane Hollander. So I thought, in this situation, what if he did exactly what I did the first time I hooked up with someone and didn’t know what the protocol was after it was over, what the next steps were, how to be like everyone else in a moment that felt amazing and confusing at the same time. What if he just asked?

    Canon divergent from the first hookup seen in HR s01ep01. Some things are from the show - aged up Marleau and Hunter, mainly - but the timeline is a mix of both. (Notably, they don't wait *two years*, they stick to the book timeline. IYKYK.) Some tags are for later chapters. I post a few times a week, and think it'll be about 30 chapters total but I'll update the total count if that changes. Please comment if you feel I'm missing any tags!

    Oh my god, I didn't know there were any copies of this left on the internet. For those who don't know, this is like. This is a foundational text of hockey RPF. This is from before hockey RPF was really a thing even. It's from the mid-aughts and wasn't posted to a fanfiction website. Instead, OP dropped this insane RPF manifesto onto a normal ass hockey fan forum (which no longer exists) then deleted their account like two days later. Just handed this to a bunch of jocks and hockey bros and dipped. Legendary shit. Like, I don't think this kid even knew what fanfiction was, the fucking hand of god just compelled him to write about being an MLH player's sex slave and show it to the world. I pray every day that this insane child actually made it to the MLH and got to meet Scott Hunter.

    So maybe Shane had a little crush on Scott Hunter in his younger years. So maybe he anonymously posted online about it once. So maybe it had become an internet legend and a running joke in the MLH.

    JJ didn't think the others saw it. Hayden, maybe, but Jackie was the only WAGs's name Shane had committed to memory so Hayden never brought it up. JJ didn't have a wife or girlfriend. He had his hookups and the names of the best restaurants in each city they player in. If JJ had a dog, Shane would probably mix its name up with Drapeau's. The others didn't get that however pathetic or sad they might think Shane, Shane thought the same of them tenfold when they missed shots at practice or ate fast food on weekdays. Shane wasn't being prissy or funny when he said, don't embarass me—JJ still doesn't know exactly what it was, but he doesn't care to find out.

    Shane had poured everything into his team (possessively: it was his team) and he asked them to give it back that day, so they delivered. When Shane smiled at them afterwards, it felt like love.
